Artist supports children’s charity

Northfield - One local artist is doing her part to support a cause helping children with serious illnesses and life-threatening conditions.
Rebecca Grantham, a Northfield artist and mother of five children, is offering her artwork, available on eBay, and donating proceeds to the non-profit organization, Hole in the Wall Camp.
“I am a member of a grass-roots movement created by eBay artists called ‘Bids-4-Kids,’ said Grantham. “More than 500 eBay artists (http://art.ebay.com) have joined together to donate anywhere from 10 percent to 100 percent of the sales of their artwork to Paul Newman’s ‘Hole in the Wall Camp,’ with the proceeds benefiting sick children across the country with art programs and supplies.”
Now until July 25, Grantham, along with more than 500 artists from around the country, is participating in a benefit for the Hole in the Wall Camp art programs.
During the Bids-4-Kids benefit, each time a participating artists sells a piece of art, proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Hole in the Wall Camp art programs.
“It is my hope that these kids can find comfort and express their struggles and joys of their childhood through making art,” said Grantham.
As a mother of five, Grantham said she is excited to be involved in the benefit because when she sees other children, she sees them as her own.
“It is a perfect pairing of art and action,” she said. “To know that there are so many artists who care alike to help out these kids is amazing.”
In 1988, Newman started the camps which now have nine locations around the world, including five in the U.S., according to the organization.
Bids-4-Kids committee member Patty Baker said, “This was the perfect cause to rally the artists around to work together and use their skills to help supply these kids with what they need to make art.”
According to the organization, Bids-4-Kids was conceived by a group of eBay artists who wanted to showcase their original art on eBay, while contributing to a charitable cause.
“Within 48 hours of the program’s announcement through message board posts, nearly 250 artists joined the effort, said a Bids-4-Kids spokesperson.
Grantham said she grew up in a small town near Rochester, N.Y., graduated with a bachelor’s of fine arts from the College of Arts and Design in Columbus, and has been an Ohio resident for the past decade.
“Currently, I am exploring chalk pastels, and through this medium, I enjoy a balance between painting and drawing,” said Grantham. “I can achieve either very detailed or textured strokes depending on the subjects needs.”
To participate, art patrons can log on to art.ebay.com to view Bids-4-Kids artworks.
“Search eBay for ‘bfk,’ which will help buyers locate the participating auctions and artists,” said Grantham. “I will be donating percentages of for the Bids-4-Kids benefit. Although, I will continue to contribute in the future.”
