Black-eyed Susan Triptych Painting Published on College Text Book Cover

I'm sure many of you have heard the expression,
it's like looking for a needle in a haystack,

Well I'm happy to share my good news with you that I hinted at before.
I am the needle in the internet haystack that has been found!
I was cautious in mentioning any of this until I knew for sure that is was legitimate with all the silly scams out there on the internet.

It is real, a couple weeks ago I was contacted online by a college text book, cover art editor for a publisher, and they are going to use my Black-Eyed Susan's triptych painting, which is on display in a local gallery until Feb. 10th, on the cover of a book entitled Human Exceptionality, By Houghton Mifflin co. (What's funny too is that the road I live is named Houghton.)

Click Here for the original blog post of the paintings.

I have just sent out the billing invoice and will have my name on the copyright page inside the book as well.
They are going to be sending me printed cover flats too.
I'll be sure to post some pictures when I have them.

The Boston company publishes over 300 text books a year, so I'm not sure exactly when this will go to print, but probably early spring.

I still am in shock, excited and very thankful,
as a family member said It is a Kiss from God;)

Wishing you always the very best,
Rebecca;)

Website Update

Hi, As you know my New Year has gotten off to an unusual start LOL

I want to let everyone know I fixed the coupling that broke on our washing machine in all about a half an hour, many many thanks to all the times I saw my mom dive into a home repair growing up and fix something. Thank you for the confidence MOM!!!

and right after that I went upstairs to turn on our oven to make a nice pork roast and the knob broke and is stripped so no oven until I see if I can fix that too ;)

and I have some exciting news to announce as soon as the paperwork comes through!!!, but for now also want to let everyone know that I just switched website hosts for rebeccagrantham.com and am going through a huge learning curve about ftp publishing among everything else that goes with setting up the site from scratch and editing all the files.

There are only a couple pages up now and will be working overtime this week to get it all together.

I want to redesign it also but that will have to wait until all my ducks are in a row
(quack quack).
Until next time,
Rebecca ;)

The Show

my Serenity piece along with Caressa's fiber behind to the right
Caressa's Fiber work

some of Sandra's Photography

my This Tree,
which looked good in person and more rich than I remembered.

I'll admit my photo's did not come out very good and I'm hoping to get back and take some more.
Saturday night went very well and the people who visited seemed honestly interested in each artist and their work. They took their time viewing each piece and meeting the artists.
the three of us represented similar but unique expressions of nature and art.

I was most happy that people responded to and felt both the atmosphere and the emotions in my paintings.
and the most asked question I got was "How do you keep up with or paint a sinking sun on site as it's happening?"
the easy answer was and is "I chase it, just as fast as I can" and that I'm getting better at it each time I paint.
It's what I truly love to do, to transfer my emotions of the moments I'm experiencing and the atmosphere of nature onto the canvas to the point of life. To the point where people forget that they are looking at a painting and are experiencing a moment.
and to know that the people I spoke with got that .. means so much.

To know that this is a simple goal but one that people relate too, is a good thing that brings me great joy.

In appreciation of Sandra's and Caressa's art, I've seen my mother's hand at quilting, sewing and knitting and to see Caressa's weaving turned into art was interesting and very visually refreshing. Having had my hand in black and white photography I could appreciate Sandra's use of photo emulsion on boxes and recycled materials as a way of balancing nature and tangible consumables.
For those that came... Thank you! Thank You Dave and Angie for setting up a splendid show.
For those that follow my work on the net and here on my blog.... Thank You!

Our new Year has gotten off to a rocky start to say the least.

In the space of a month, we have had our vacuum break, our van break down, our toilet had to be replaced because somehow .. who knows how... all five of our little ones shake their head... a huge rubber super ball got lodged to the point of no return. and now today our washing machine coupling broke.

To all the many things this New Year will bring and the curves it has already thrown all I can do is laugh and head out to paint in this very unusual Spring Winter we are having.

May we all have a year filled with tons of Memories, Laughs and Triumphants.

~Rebecca
