ACEO's #'s 12 & 10 & a rainbow

Here are no's 12 & 10, they are a part of a four piece set within the 18 series.

You can see the retouched complete set below in the other post.

These pictures are a little better, but it still remains that my camera doesn't like close ups,

But hey I'm not much for pictures of myself either.

When we go somewhere I'm usually so busy shooting the surroundings that I forget to take pictures of the family. eek. LOL shhhh

I took this picture yesterday. The rainbow was beautiful as was the atmosphere.

It was just barely misting rain along with a golden hue in the sky, my son found this rainbow stretching high right over behind our home.

That makes two rainbows so far this summer when before the other I hadn't caught one in many years. Rainbows are beautiful and always fill me with hope and faith.

ACEO #8

Camera wo's,
Ok so my digital camera gets the job done but shooting these small works and trying to capture the oil texture, details and colors well ..... to say the least I am not satisfied.

This is #8 and a perfect example, half in focus and the rest is just sliding right on off the card.
I am tempted to dig out my trusty Pentax 35 mm all manual camera.
Ahh but the ease of the digital, shoot, load and upload has me.

I've found too that the beautiful cornflower blue color is just not read in my camera.
Truly the quality between a film camera and digital is a far gap atleast for the camera I'm using.

Anyway it's interesting as an artist what captures a viewer to bid on or buy your art versus what I find most compelling and inspirational to create.

Something that speaks to my heart may or may not speak to yours.

Art Drops

I just love this!
A2A is a group of international artists giving art away.

Little packaged pieces of art are being left all around the world waiting to be found.

In public places, libraries, bus stops, supermarkets, parks and more all over artists are leaving little treasures to be kept by who so ever is lucky enough to find them.

If you should find one be sure to check in either by email or by returning a postcard.

Check out A2A for more information.

I am going to be sprinkling little drops throughout Ohio, locally and on my limited travels.

It would be great fun if we could join together and drop on the same day throughout the world.

Imagine ACEO #7

Available on eBay, bid now
Here is number 7 of 18 in my Imagine Landscape ACEO Series.

I am really enjoying these miniature paintings.

What is your favorite thing about aceo's?

Mine is that my ideas areprogressing more quickly than by doing a few large works, but at the same time they are invigorating my desire and ideas for painting these same things huge.

This has been a week of firsts for me, I listed my first aceo's and cigar box painting on ebay as well as created my private crew group to show my appreciation for their support!

I encourage everyone to try something new!
All the Best

Update on Today

Hi I have some sad news to post today.
Early this week my husbands coworker and friend passed away unexpectedly in a very sad boating accident. My husband I think is still in shock about how fast this happened.
The wake is today.

Lisa was very understanding and is going to be taking pictures of the fair for me to paint from.

Today I'm reminded of many things. I remember 8 years ago being in labor for 11 1/2 hours and giving birth to our first son .
The nurses were wonderful. He was born at 4:00 pm and they gave me a birthday cake and song.

He is the best birthday present I could have ever have been given!

So as we continue on this stream of life, there are twists and turns, gusts, gales and gentle breezes- we just have to stay steady in the boat, make the most of everyday, continue to see our glasses half full if not overflowing with blessings both small and great.

Everyday is a GIFT!
Cherish yours today!

Saturday

I am looking forward to new things in my path as an artist.

Beginning Saturday I will paint my first craft show. The first of three shows I have been invited to paint for the promoter Lisa Nemeth. The paintings will be used in her marketing next year and after the show I am having an interview for an article in a local Cleveland art magazine Artist Review Today.

Speaking of that I had 15 seconds of air time early this week. Lisa had a radio interview and she asked me to call and chat about painting the show.

My kids thought it was so cool that I could be on the radio from our phone.

I have been busy between making the aceo's and prepping some works to bring with me and all the little things that I will need to have on hand.
Later I have to get painting supplies and some materials printed that I need for both the show and for a painting that needs to be shipped.

I am going to have people who join my mailing list be entered into winning a study from the day of the fair.

What a great way to celebrate my birthday, with good food, good music and kicking off a new step in my career.

Cheers!
Rebecca

ACEO Art Cards Premiere Issue No. One Landscape Series

Title Imagine .Sold

Here are the first examples of my ACEO (art cards, editions & originals).
These are the new line I was hinting at and am glad some artists knew what they were and had some fun with in my last post!

There are going to be 18 cards in all with a common theme of dark trees, shapes, color and light, becoming more abstract as they are created.

I have done small works before in the 3" x 5" area but never these little ones measuring only 2.5" x 3.5".

All it took was diving in. I have always wanted to give it a go and really happy I did.
This small format is allowing me to create and progress quicker but they are sure making me want to paint a similar work HUGE.

They are created in oil plein air on primed thick illustration board.
They will be signed and numbered.

These cards pictured above are numbered as following because I have a few different sets in the series.
1/3 -1/18,
2/3 -2/18,
3/3 3-18

Art Cards are highly collectible and so unique. Search ebay for ACEO.

It amazes me that these little works can sell for as little as $1 or as high as $100.00

There are some artist's cards I have my eye on shhhhh and will be collecting too if I can win them.

The cards can be kept in plastic sleeves, hard shells or binders like baseball cards as well as matting and framing as one piece or a group.

These cards will be going to auction on ebay sometime later this week or early next. Feel free to subscribe to my ebay auction feed to receive an email notification.

Thoughts for Today and Something New Coming Soon

"I'm continuing to work hard, not without periods of discouragement, but my strength comes back again." (Claude Monet)

Taken from Robert Genn's Twice Weekly Letter, that always has something to think about. http://www.painterskeys.com/

This quote is timely for me today but even more appropriate for the days of last week.
I love growing and grow best by painting, and painting some more.
Throwing off the layers of fear and whispers that try to tell me what I should be and not what I am.

I have been working on a brand new collectible edition(s) of my work for fun. Something that many other artists are making and something that I have always wanted too.

Stay tuned I'll be posting them here first and have been dropping hints on my ebay blog.

Hint no. 1
This kind of art is commonly known by 4 letters _ _ _ _ and kinda rhymes with play dough (sorta) LOL I'm in a silly mood lately kinda like a cork, takin it as it comes.

ok off to finish my chores and paint some more.
The weather is beautiful here and I hope it is where you are too.

Where in Ohio is Rebecca

Here is a short list of up and coming events for me this summer that I will be adding to my sidebar.

These are the events where I will be onsite painting with NorthCoast Promotions, many thanks to the invitation and vision of Lisa Nemeth.

June 24 - St. John Byzantine Bazaar
July 28-30 - Seven Hills Home Days Festival
August 4-6 - Pokrova Ukrainian Festival
The three large originals produced will be available for purchase in the Galleria, and I will also be participating among my peers with works for sale in the festival.
September 16-17 - The Galleria - The Greater Cleveland Art & Gallery Festival

I am excited for the change in subject matter and am already envisioning works filled with light and color, to capture the energy of the festivals in an abstract joyous manner.

In between and hopefully beginning over the next few days I will be visiting my neighbors garden, she has some beauties in bloom that are calling my name, I drool every time I drive by.

ps I have some other tricks up my sleeve too :)

Wishing you days filled with little wonders.
Rebecca

Light Falls Box 2

Here is the top of the 2nd cigar box painting.
After this piece and especially Sun Dance I have made peace with all the green that surrounds me.

I have been going through a transition with my art and realizing more about myself.
I don't know why it takes me so much. Where as others it comes quite easily.
But I am who I am.
Just someone in love with light and color.

Inspired by the sunlight dancing a soft rythym across the grass, chasing the shadows of the trees and playing with the robins. I think I heard hushed giggling.

When I step back and look around away from my easel I see just how far I have to go.

Peach Nights

Title- Peach Nights
Almost finished.
I just need to sign it and lay some nice felt or velvet on the inside.

Original Oil
Wood Cigar
Jewelry Box
8 ½” x 9” x 2 ¼”
Price $49.00

The original box was a black Sancho Panza Double Maduro.

I am working on another one of these today.

The cigar boxes are courtesy of my Dad. I have always loved unique boxes, bags and such.
and he has always loved cigars. He just got back from a Cigar Festival in PA.

I still have an antique painted box from when I was a child so when my Mom told me hey I've been saving these for you do you want them I jumped! and she sent them right away.

I have looked at the blank boxes in the craft stores but I love the character of this box and finding a new purpose for it.

I may make some into cigar box purses. But for now I love idea of storing treasures in them.

Art Walk Follow up

The weekend at the artwalk was much fun with a steady flow of people between the rain that would splash through quickly.
I learned more about selling and met such a variety of people. Many of who where breezing through and difficult for me to engage since the studio was the first or last stop on the route.
Most memorable comment:
I was talking with a small group of people and the gentleman had said that they would like to collect originals but can't because and looked at me and said they Had NO Walls.
Where is a landscape painter to go from there. I almost burst out laughing.
He said they had nothing but a stone fireplace and glass windows.
Had I had my finished jewelry box I would have directed him to it.
But we had a good laugh and I mentioned how eventually I want to create my landscapes in stainedglass, another love of mine and one that my winter work would certainly translate well into.
above that though I had three other highlights.
Here is a picture of one.

It's funny how I didn't notice the wires until after I took this.
I haven't seen a rainbow in more years than I can remember and when I saw how the sky was turning after the rain quickly left with the sun coming out at my back, my hopes were high.
Sure enough there it is was right infront of the studio.
It arched over the bell tower and could be seen softly on the right as well.
My girls were with me and loved seeing it. When I got home and my boys came back from a friends house I found out they saw a huge one too.

The other wonderful highlight is this:
Drum roll....

My brother in law Dan traded me this wonderful wood sculpture of his Chopsticks for my piece Highkey Sunset that I framed.

It's entirely carved out of 3 kinds of wood down to the large grain of rice.

Isn't it wonderful?!!!

He loved my piece. It is funny how when a work connects it connects. I barely could accept his work for mine, I tried to sneak out leaving mine as a surprise and a thank you but he caught me and snuck his in my trunk as I was packing up Sunday.

I ended up covering my costs for the show with some small originals and note card sets.

I met a lot of wonderful people.

It was a good to get my feet wet with this kind of venue.

and I'll leave you with this other picture I took on the way home!

It's from a Beautiful Garden center.

Can you guess what I want to paint next?

Today

The weather today is beautiful as if Heaven Opened it's Windows, I couldn't ask for more. It is perfect.

Hubby put a beer can chicken on the grill with his famous rub although he's been sick and we've been jamming to Les Claypool.

I've been outside all day painting and have almost finished one jewelry box Peach Nights and started a new one too.
Heading back out will post a little later about the art walk. It was a lot of fun.
Cheers

Thursday

Murray Hill Art Walk

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend coming up.

If you're in the Murray Hill, Little Italy area of Cleveland, Oh you'll find me painting plein air on site with a table of wares as a part of the 27th annual Art Walk. June 2, 3, & 4th

What's great is I get to display for free outside my brother in laws studio.
He's setting up too and I'll be sure to post some pictures. Dan is a wonderful wood sculptor and his girlfriend makes the most thoughtful handmade books.

My Hubby is going to fabricate 3/5 metal stands for my display as I cross my fingers for beautiful weather.

Hopefully next year it will be all three of us.

My husband is a stone sculptor and has been truly enjoying working on his latest piece. It is a bushmaster snake being carved out of Indiana Limestone.
(pics coming soon)

It is a wonderful balance of art between the three of us.

1 realistic sculptor in stone
1 abstract sculptor mixed media

and me LOL.
