The Last of Winter

With Spring coming in full colors and earthly renewal I am looking forward to growing in my art work.
I am going to go boldly through the coming months following nature's inspirations wherever they lead me.

My over thinking can only be sorted out through action.
There are answers in my art work that I want to discover and they can only be found through painting.

What will remain constant is :
Make it Beautiful
Express with passion
Celebrate Joy
and this quote from a recent buyer of my artwork.

"Thank you for capturing the beautiful things in this world that the rest of us can only retain a fleeting memory of before it passes"

Wishing you a week of beauty!
Rebecca

SnowStripes, Me, Teaser

Here's a picture I took yesterday of the beautiful blue shadows from the trees.
I love it, it's a natural abstract. We got record breaking snowfall.

Finally thanks to my son I got a picture of me outside in the snow.
Yup I'm wearing my favorite jacket from Dad when he was in the Navy.
You can still make out USS Nautilus on the back

And here is a teaser from my new jigsaw puzzle painting.
I have it almost done.
I'm finishing the images and pendant rings.
This time I'll be offering some pieces that fit together.

I will be posting a couple more winter paintings later too.
They are soft, high key, snowstorm works and much harder to paint then when you're blasted by colors everywhere.
Seeing color in snow.

All the best,

In the quiet of a Winter storm the busy landscape is muffled by the falling snow. There is so much to be heard if only we will listen.

I also added a limited edition of 50 signed and numbered magnets to my e-store.

Sunset Meditation Triptych Plein Air Painting

Sunset Meditation

Here is my new plein air triptych painting I just finished.
each panel measures 12in by 25in
oil on gallery wrap canvas. you can click it to see it larger.

Painting is the most freeing thing I do,
it's the one activity I engage in to let myself go.
It is the one time my cluttered go go mind that is always multitasking making sure every end is tied, every need of our kids is met and every to do is done,
is washed over with peace and the moments I'm experiencing flow through me.

The more I can let myself go the more life is transferred onto my canvas.
This is why I love plein air painting.
and realize there's no turning back.
It is just as essential to my well being as it is to my art that I create from life as it's happening.

What is one thing you do where your mind and spirit rest?

All the best,
Rebecca

Finding Landscape painting on canvas

Finding
12" x 12" oil on canvas

It's not often that I choose to let a painting go and prime over it to create a new one.

But what's under this painting was an attempt to create something, from a place I am not at any more but have the fondest memories of.

What I'm trying to say is I looked back and thought I could produce something like I had many years ago, it wasn't a success., We can't go backward only forward in new ways. I do like the texture from the previous painting coming through it fits very well and appears intentional, something I might try in the future.

What was amazing was how this sky changed as I was painting. The sunset slowly but dramatically shifting from these pastels to brilliant yellows, dark glowing purple and hot hot pinks. Although I didn't bring these changes into this painting, I chose to let them play out in front of me as I painted the soft distance it was wonderful to experience.

I am looking forward to the opening tomorrow and seeing the works of everyone involved up on the walls.

It doesn't bother me the change from a solo to a group show, it is going to be interesting to see three different interpretations of nature. One through paint, one photography and another through fiber.

I will try to get some pictures up Sunday.
and it's certainly a great way to end and begin a New Year.

I have some exciting ideas that I hope will begin to come to fruit this year.

I do love the idea of celebrating a new year, it's fresh, hopeful air waiting to be filled with new steps built upon the ones from the last year.

All the best,
~Rebecca

touches of brushstrokes, palette knife shapes.

I am trying to tame my desire of bold colors and sharp lines.
not a large step but a good step, and the gentle winter we are experiencing is aiding me.

Instead of the gray weather dragging me down I'm finding beauty in the soft color schemes.

Both day and evening are filled with smokey earth tones, pastel horizons and common plum clouds, my eyes are embracing this gentler, more introspective side of nature.

Still straddling the line between impressionist, abstract, expressive modern art I'm finding myself in each painting . Where they are what I am and not a specific description box.

Gently Serene, Dreamy, mystical, spiritual, deep breath, hot coffee, hot cocoa, marshmallows, warm gloves, soft scarf, hope, joy, peace, acceptance, dreams, friends,.

These are just some random thoughts that come into my mind when I look at this piece.
How does it make you feel or what do you think of seeing it?

It was a breath of fresh air for me to paint this large again and look forward to more larger works.

Shadows of Winter

Sometimes you finish a piece and sometimes it finishes itself and as an artist you have to realize when.

I got two days into my new work and Northeast Ohio weather decided to change again. All of the snow melted by the third day, I had hoped to get back into this piece but the more I looked at, the more I realized it is done. This reliance on a single canvas and single goal got me thinking about Monet and how he would have different canvasses ready for different times of the day. I also realized when I looked among my completed works how few in number they are. I paint nearly every day in my mind and am filled with an excited confidence of the hundreds more that are just waiting to spill out of me. Being an artist is a wonderful journey in growth, exploration and adventure.

Later this week I'm heading out for more blanks, not only to have many going at a time but for larger works also. My life is a complex juggling act with the many hats I have to wear. Wife, Mother to 5, Artist and evening employee, not to mention the many other responsibilities I have. Life gets exhausting, I will be posting a completed shot soon. Onto this week I am gearing up to submit this piece and Beyond Grey to a local Juried Show at weeks end.

Beyond Grey

Beyond Grey
9" x 12"
Plein air oil landscape painting.
January 13th, 06'
This piece has gone through many transitions over the last few days. It had been entirely grey outside for weeks, not enough sunshine for any shadow to be cast. I'm glad I pushed past what I was feeling and experiencing. And am thankful that the sun did come out three days into this painting, although it completely changed it and me.
This piece was a soft thoughtful grey full of lavender and blue.
You'll just have to trust me ;)
Cheers, Rebecca
